Problem

Breweries are crowded Friday-Sunday but not during weekdays; they don't know how to attract customers; customers have a lot of places where to choose from but they end up going to the same place. We decided to fix that.

Prototyping

We built a prototype using Ionic that allowed Pinta Libre to validate the idea with breweries and customers. Within barely two weeks, we had confirmed that the idea worked.

Since then, together with the client, we built a roadmap with the confidence of knowing we were doing the right thing.

User flow

Once validated, we started working in the application and user experience. We wanted customers to easily subscribe and find the right place where to go and grab their pint. We had many meetings, brainstorming sessions, built tons of sketches and did some strategic planning together with the client.

Branding + UX + UI

The client brought its own design team onboard to build the brand identity focused on their target: millennials. Unagi worked next to them to build all the wireframes and create an intuitive and simple user experience.

Research

We made a huge investigation to get insights from the industry and from users. After long journeys, we got to a point where we were all satisfied with the interactions the app would offer. From day one, we realized that getting to thousands of users would be a turning point to allow people to socialize and make Pinta Libre a success.

Choosing the right stack to move fast

We knew we had to build an app for iOS and Android, the major players in the industry, but also move fast because we hadn't had launched anything yet and needed some traction. That's why we chose a combination of Ruby on Rails + Ionic.

As seen from today, Ionic was a great decision. We built and launched a solid app in a matter of months and saved enormous amounts of time and money.

At the same time, chosen by some of the big players in the industry, Ruby on Rails is one of the best technologies to create projects in an easy, scalable, and maintainable way.

Looking forward

v1 was launched only 3 months after starting. Today, the app has more than 100k downloads and is available in 4 countries.

Meanwhile, we continue working together with Pinta Libre to help more users from around the world get their free beer.
